So far I have learned…

Posted on: 10/02/2011

  1. Not to blithely wave around my rotary cutter like it’s my friend and not a potentially fatal piece of kit (pinkie is nearly better now).
  2. Not to iron the cutting mat (I can be seriously daft).
  3. Not to daydream whilst cutting. Just because this is my 43rd cut of the day doesn’t mean the rotary cutter will cut in a straight line all by itself .
  4. Press, press, press. Press the fabric. Press the ruler. Press the tape. Press the rings. Press the rolls. Press the PVC. Impressed?
  5. Be generous with fabric seams. Cutting it fine does not pay!
  6. Get to know fabric designs. Each piece needs to be looked at long and hard, like a potential husband, not a quick glance, to make the best shade.

More lessons to come (especially when it comes to making some money).
